Diversity in the ringing

søndag 16. maj 2021
af Samuel Perfect

A spectacular day with calm conditions allowing all the nets to be opened. The light waft of easterly wind carried some promise and it was not to disappoint. A total of 61 birds were ringed, involving 19 species, and including our first Red-spotted Bluethroat (Blåhals, Luscinia svecica) (ssp. svecica) of the spring!

Below are a selection of this mornings' ringing pictures:

Reed Bunting (Rørspurv, Emberiza schoeniclus).

After the ringing I accomplished some domestic tasks, went food shopping, then got back on the bike and cycled to Ho Bugt. The tide was just beginning to fall allowing the breeding-plumage waders renewed access to the newly exposed mud. To round of the brilliant day, I watch an Osprey (Fiskeørn, Pandion haliaetus), with fish prey, 100's of Dark-bellied Brent Geese (Mørkbuget Knortegås, Branta bernicla bernicla), including a single Pale-bellied Brent Goose (Lysbuget Knortegås, Branta bernicla hrota) and two resting Spoonbills (Skestork, Platalea leucorodia). A Wryneck (Vendehalse, Jynx torquilla) was also feeding in the station car park before I left!

As I write this blog post, several moths have been attracted to the window thanks to the lighting from the station, including several Twenty-plume Moths (Kaprifoliefjermøl, Alucita hexadactyla) and a Shoulder Stripe (Brungul Bladmåler, Earophila badiata)!

Ringing: 12 Willow Warbler (Løvsanger, Phylloscopus trochilus) (including one ssp. acredula) , 10 Chiffchaff (Gransanger, Phylloscopus collybita), 10 Lesser Whitethroat (Gærdesanger, Curruca curruca), 2 Linnet (Tornirisk, Linaria cannabina), 1 Bluethroat (Blåhals, Luscinia svecica) (ssp. svecica), 3 Redstart (Rødstjert, Phoenicurus phoenicurus), 1 Reed Bunting (Rørspurv, Emberiza schoeniclus), 3 Blackcap (Munk, Sylvia atricapilla), 3 Whitethroat (Tornsanger, Curruca communis), 2 Song Thrush (Sangdrossel, Turdus philomelos), 2 Lesser Redpoll (Lille Gråsisken, Acanthis cabaret), 1 Common/Lesser Redpoll (Nordlig/Lille Gråsisken, Acanthis flammea/cabaret), 2 Spotted Flycatcher (Grå fluesnapper, Muscicapa striata), 1 Robin (Rødhals, Erithacus rubecula), 2 Pied Flycatcher (Broget fluesnapper, Ficedula hypoleuca), 1 Icterine Warbler (Gulbug, Hippolais icterina), 1 Wheatear (Stenpikker, Oenanthe oenanthe), 1 Garden Warbler (Havesanger, Sylvia borin), 1 Blackbird (Solsort, Turdus merula), and 2 Starling (Stære, Sturnus vulgaris).
