Life in the Sabine's Bunker

søndag 15. august 2021
af Samuel Perfect

With the wind gusting at 13mps we were once again refrained from opening nets and we all made the arduous trek to the Sabine's Bunker in the hope of connecting with some seabirds. Once again the Oystercatcher (Strandskade, Haematopus ostralegus) passage did not disappoint and we logged a total of 1512 birds!

The pick of the bunch included a Manx Shearwater (Almindelig Skråpe, Puffinus puffinus) migrating south at the moment the first observors sat down. A respectable total of 4 Red-necked Grebes (Gråstrubet Lappedykker, Podiceps grisegena), 978 Common Terns (Fjordterne, Sterna hirundo) and 169 Sanderling (Sandløber, Calidris alba) provided steady entertainment alongside a modest passage of common waders and a smattering of gulls and ducks.

Follow this link to a full list of this morning's observations.
