Western winds bring some great birds to blåvand

Despite the western winds still slowing down shorebird migration, we were able to find some great birds during the survey today! 

The gull (måge) diversity was definitely the highlight of the morning, with great birds such as Little Gull (Dværmage) and Mediterranean Gull (Sorthovedet Måge).  Probably the most surprising find of the morning, Henrick spotted a single adult Kittiwake (Ride) moving north around 0700.  

We also had some impressive movements of Oystercatcher (Strandskade), Diver (Rødstrubet Lom), and a single Razorbill (Alk) that gave us great views as it flew right by the shore. 

With autumn ringing starting in less than a week, much of our time after the survey was devoted to clearing out the garden net lanes of vegetation and making sure we would have ample space to move around the nets when we actually open them on the twentieth.  We were thrilled to get some help from Bent, Svend, and John (Bent and John were also here to pick up some of the old data sheets from the nineties).   

Tomorrow, it looks like we're finally going to get some eastern wind, hopefully that will bring some great shorebird numbers! On Sunday it looks like we're going back to strong western winds which may bring more interesting seabirds (hopefully even a tubenose).
