Strong south-southwestern winds at Blåvand

With strong southwestern winds coming from the English Channel, we were all very hopeful that there would be some great seabirds during our survey.  Unfortunately, it ended up being heavy southern southwestern winds, unlike the western southwestern winds we were hoping for.  Despite this, there were still a few nice suprises, such as a single Red-necked Grebe (Gråstrubet lappedykker) and quite a few Red Knots (Islandsk Ryle).

The southern winds were so heavy that we actually conducted the observations from inside on the bunkers north of the point, which gave us some shelter from the wind which we were all very thankful for.

On the way back, we walked through some nice habitat with good looks at Red-backed Shrike (Rødrygget Tornskade) and European Goldfinch (Stillits).

Tomorrow has more western southwestern winds so hopefully that will bring more seabirds (and perhaps even a shearwater!).
