My first day at the station and the first Woodcock of the season
Today was my first day at the bird station! Over the course of the day a handful of birds were caught and since it was not to busy Morten had all the time to show me the ropes. There were two recaptures: a Eurasian Wren (Gærdesmutte) and a Goldcrest (Fuglekonge). The new captures of the day were a Dunnock (Jernspurv), Common Blackbird (Solsort) and most notably a Woodcock (Skovsneppe), which was the first bird I ever held in my own hands!
In the morning between checking the nets I took the time to climb the watchtower to get a good view of the area and later in the afternoon the sun was shining, so I went for a walk over the beach and watched some Sandlings (Sandløber) foraging and in the dunes I was accompanied by the songs of Eurasian Skylarks (Sanglærke).
If my first day was any sign, then I am sure I will be having a great time here at the bird station.
