Ringing continues + a midday field trip

Obs

Despite lower numbers of migrating shorebirds due to the western winds, it was still a decent day at obs.  There was a respectable movement of 510 Common Scoters (Sortand) and 6 alcids for the morning, including three Common Murre (Lomvie). Gull numbers were also strong, with an impressive 12 Caspian Gulls (Kaspisk Måge).

Ringing

Today was the winds were far calmer so we were able to have a far more functional morning of ringing.  All but three nets were open in the station and lighthouse garden, by far our best of the season.  We were rewarded with 22 newly ringed birds, including two new species for the season! A Common Blackbird (Solsort) was caught within the first hour of ringing, only our second Turdid of the season and our bulk for the day was the other new species, nine European Greenfinch (Grønirisk).  Johan got practice handling some smaller birds and we started to experience the more consistent flow of birds we'll get in the coming weeks.  The Chiffchaff previously ringed in Barcelona has continued to make an appearance in the lighthouse garden, being caught for the second day in a row.

After ringing, Henrik led the station on a field trip to Lonborg and Tipperne, where we recorded many different waders and waterbirds. We spent quite a while observing birds from the Tipperne observation tower and made a stop to see the Pied Avocet (Klyde) in Kjelst on the way back.
