White-spotted Bluethroat

torsdag 4. april 2019
69 birds of 14 species ringed today
af Tim Micallef

Although we mainly had Redpolls (Lesser), Chiffchaffs, Goldcrests and Dunnocks, today this beautiful second year male Bluethroat (white-spotted subspecies) visited. It was yet another interesting species recorded this week, together with the numerous birdlife sounding and foraging at Blåvand this morning. The weather held and luckily no precipitation occurred, allowing uninterrupted ringing into the afternoon hours. While I was mostly at the lighthouse garden, Morten took care of the station ringing for the day. Xenia and David kindly assisted during the standard ringing and busier moments, even finding the Bluethroat as the activity slowed down around lunchtime!

With just one full day remaining, I wish to thank everyone at Blåvand Fuglestation for making me feel at home these past five weeks. Regardless of the weather on some days last month, it has been a good learning experience and an absolute pleasure to work here. Considering the research facilities, location and persons involved, the observatory is set up so well. It's the knowledgeable and dedicated birders, ringers and volunteers who make it all happen, and I truly hope to return soon, perhaps briefly in the autumn!
