Lisa Flam:

I can say without a doubt, this was the best day so far.

It's not about the total number of the day. Today was about nice weather, nice company, nice birds and even some other wildlife.
We started the day, Mathias and I, with over 20 birds. Most of them were Robins (rødhalse), some Wrens (gærdesmutter), Blackcaps (munke) and Willow Warbler (løvsanger). We felt this is going to be a good day with lots of birds. We were very surprised on our second round having less than 10 birds! What was going on?

3rd round we had only 2 birds. I took a glance at the first bird from far away and assumed it will be a Garden Warbler (havesanger). When I got to the nets, I realized it was a type of Flycatcher (fluesnapper), but I was getting it out safely so didn’t even focus on what Flycatcher it was. Mathias came by and immediately identified it as a Red-breasted Flycatcher (lille fluesnapper)!! All the birders around came as fast as possible to see it! Definitely a good moment for us today. By that time, we didn’t care anymore that we had only 2 birds.

The next special bird was a bird that I have been dreaming to at least see. I was promised by Bent to ring some through the season, but for me it was enough just to see it.
Lucky me- It was located really close to the nets, I was watching it fly around, and finally it flew into the net- FIRECREST (RØDTOPPET FUGLEKONGE). I know most of the readers won’t understand my excitement but for me it was a dream come true.

Later on David and Michael joined us. Michael recently got his X-license and is learning how to get birds out of the nets, he is getting a lot of experience and helps when it is possible.

In total we had 59+7 from 18 species!
Robin (24+3), Song Thrush (sangdrossel) (2), Lesser Whitethroat (gærdesanger) (1), Common Whitethroat (tornsanger) (1), Yellowhammer (gulspurv) (4+1 recapture, was ringed in Blåvand Station by Henrik Knudsen on March 9th 2017!!), Dunnock (jernspurv) (3+1), Coal Tit (sortmejse) (4) etc.

We also had a recapture Robin that I have ringed exactly a month ago that had a juvenile plumage, This time still with a juvenile plumage but also an orange breast!

Last round I almost stepped on a snake (Common European Viper, (hugorm)). Amazingly enough, this is the second time I’ve seen it so far, both times after almost stepping on it.
